San Francisco Giants star outfielder Hunter Pence is expected to miss eight weeks and is leaning toward having surgery to repair a torn hamstring tendon.
San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy announced Pence's injury Friday, saying that the NL West-leading Giants already have discussed possible trade options.
"We've got to get creative here," Bochy said. "I can't tell you what's going to happen or who's going to get the most playing time. If you look at our lineup as a group, we can get a little better."
"This sucks, basically," Giants first baseman Brandon Belt said. "He's obviously a big part of this team. It's going to be hard to replace somebody like him for two months."
Pence suffered the injury in Wednesday's loss to the Atlanta Braves. The three-time All-Star is batting .298 with seven home runs and a team-leading 36 RBIs this season.
